The 2016 Fall meeting of the Vermont Old Cemetery Association was held on Saturday, October 1, at the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 7823 on Exchange Street in Middlebury, Vermont. Coffee hour ran 9 to 10 AM. A rousing business meeting was conducted from 10 to Noon. President Tom Giffin and Vice President Dianne Leary presided. Current officers were re-elected. A motion was passed to issue membership cards. The treasury is in the black. The 2016 Fund Campaign was a great success. A motion was passed to pursue the Vermont Cemetery Vandalism Fund Act at the coming legislative session. Several great cemetery preservation projects were detailed. Lunch followed and the meatloaf, mashed potatoes, little carrots, gravy and apple pie were to die for (pardon the expression). A great afternoon presentation was given by author and historian Steve Zeoli. Steve presented a pictorial and narrative of the life of Revolutionary War artist John Trumbull, a soldier at Mt. Independence. Trumball's paintings hang in the the Capitol rotunda in Washington, D.C. Members and guests were in attendance from all over the state with members from New York also attending.
